We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Probationary Secondary Special Education Teacher to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students with diverse needs and contribute to our district's mission of educational excellence.
Position Overview: As a Secondary Special Education Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) that empower students to achieve their academic and personal goals. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including general education teachers, support staff, and families, to ensure that every student receives the support and resources they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and Implement IEPs: Create and implement individualized education programs tailored to the unique strengths and needs of each student, aligning with the district's commitment to personalized learning as outlined in our strategic plan.

Adapt and Modify Curriculum: Modify and adapt curriculum materials to ensure accessibility for all learners, fostering a learning environment that aligns with the district's portrait of a graduate, emphasizing critical thinking and problem-solving.

Collaborate and Communicate: Work closely with general education teachers, support staff, and families to promote student success, embodying the collaborative spirit of our district compact.

Monitor and Assess Progress: Regularly monitor and assess student progress, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and families.

Foster Inclusive Environment: Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that supports social-emotional learning and promotes inclusivity, ensuring that all students feel valued and respected.

Provide Multi-Sensory Instruction: Provide effective multi-sensory instruction to meet the diverse learning styles of students.

Qualifications:

Appropriate New York State certification required: Students with Disabilities 7-12 and/or Students with Disabilities K-12.

Experience working with students with diverse needs and disabilities in a secondary setting.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective IEPs.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, reflecting the district's emphasis on collaboration.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, families, and community resources.

A strong belief in the ability for all students to succeed.

Understanding of effective behavior management strategies.

The ideal candidate will possess dual certification and have proven experience developing and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP). Preference will be given to candidates with experience working in an alternative high school setting and a strong familiarity with the New York State Social Emotional Learning Benchmarks.
