Herricks Public Schools, a community of learners that values diversity and measures success by one's personal development and contributions to society, is seeking an outstanding and compassionate candidate who possesses New York State certification as a Speech and Language Pathologist for an anticipated full-time position for the 2025-26 school year.   

 

The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering the District's commitment to preparing students for success today and into the future, with a focus on the development of essential skills and dispositions as outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate. These include: Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Innovation, Compassion, and Confidence.   

 

Responsibilities:

  • Implement IEP goals and provide CSE recommended speech therapy and consultation for students.

  • Conduct speech/language evaluations as part of the CSE process for initial eligibility and reevaluation purposes.

  • Join school’s Instructional Support Teams to discuss both classified and non-classified student language needs to offer professional guidance and support.

  • Provide MTSS/RTI speech improvement supports for non-classified students as recommended by Instructional Support Teams.

  • Participate in new-entrant and/or Kindergarten screenings.

  • Participate in Pupil Services Department meetings and professional development opportunities.

The Ideal Candidate Will Demonstrate:

  • NYS certification as a Speech and Language Pathologist.

  • Strength in communication, language, and collaboration skills.   

     

  • Knowledge with communication devices, ENL/language needs, and behavior intervention skills to meet individual student needs.

  • The ability to communicate openly and effectively, using listening skills to build trust while demonstrating open-mindedness, flexibility and respect in working with others towards a common goal.   

     

  • The ability to effectively and respectfully exchange ideas through multiple modalities to a targeted audience.   

     

  • A commitment to the District's vision to prepare all our students for an increasingly uncertain digital future.   

     

Additional Information:

  • The assigned building and caseload can vary from year to year; however, Speech and Language Pathologists are typically assigned to one or two school buildings.
